a+u’s April 2025 issue features Andrés Jaque / Office for Political Innovation (OFFPOLINN), an international architectural practice, based in New York and Madrid, and presents their investigation of the more-than-human dimension of the built environment through the concept of transspecies architecture. Instead of considering humans and buildings as enclosed entities that divide territory into discrete and separable units of space, transspecies architecture counters unilateral anthropocentric thinking by imagining architecture as a gathering of heterogenous entities, from the microbes in concrete to pulmonary alveoli, with permeable layers and varying scales in between. This issue of a+u brings together architects from across the globe – Mireia Luzárraga and Alejandro Muiño (TAKK) from Spain and Mio Tsuneyama (Studio mnm) and Fuminori Nousaku (Fuminori Nousaku Architects) in Japan – to further this critical dialogue into the post-anthropocentric era.
